Intention

The simplest intention

each lesson of life

gifts you

should not build you up

but build you down,

break off the complicated factions

the world threw at you

and release them

into the wind.

at the ocean

my intention,

my desire,

my secret wish

is to simplify life.

many men

have tried It;

we heard about it.

It didn’t work.

many women

have tried It;

we didn’t hear about it.

(proof enough) It didn’t work.

we searched for It

in churches and mosques,

temples and tall, gray shopping malls.

we listened for It

at TED talks, college lecture halls

and sports stadiums with 80,000 seats.

when fate

grants you power,

what do you do with It?

men decided to seek It only in themselves,

simplicity and peace and glory

owned by one hand, one heart, one tear.

I ask: where does the tear come from?

Where does the water come from?

I’ll start by listening there.

Truth, Wisdom, Love

The weight

of the Truth

is the weight

of a mountain–

a single Earth.

The weight

of Wisdom

is the weight

of a feather–

a single tear.

It is

bright tonight

as I huddle tight

next to a soft pillow

and a softer light,

shining

the way Love

greets lovers

in the doorway…

Surrender

When I was younger
my doubt came in the form of a size 4
black and white
soccer ball
“Can I win,
can I beat the player
these coaches have formed inside of my head?”
I wrote
and I wrote
and finally I forgave

I created a new reality of real-life-results
and they stuck.

Today I read words that reminded me of that time
“Everything is to be nurtured,”
and I cannot think literally about this.

We must think clearly,
sharply,
simply
about what the nurtured soul is to begin with.

Asking myself,
“How do I feel?”
Without judgement,
without delay
is most likely the most important question
I will have asked myself in four years
the last time I stepped on the field
that I believed scarred me

It had given me strength.

Beauty is to be nurtured
Simplicity is to be nurtured
Love is to be nurtured.

For buried under all that nasty doubt,
my final enemy,
is a white flag
I know as freedom.

Flow

A simple life

a solo life

is not a life off-course,

.

We must teach

our sails to turn

to a new wind

.

I want to learn

what it is like

to be accepted by my own skin,

.

I want to feel

what it is like

to pull the oars and steer

.

What it is like

to let hatred eat up

your skull

.

Only evil would know,

not I, not you, my sister,

we’re Love

.

Love the simple,

Love the brave,

Love the everything will stay the same

.

Now change

because even that facade will fade away,

the impermanence of all holds meaning

.

More than my hands around a cross,

Now I’ll get lost

in the mind that identifies too much with itself

.

We are body,

We are mind,

We are soul,

.

Flowing

in one place,

together.

.

To clarify, I am and grew up Catholic, and I DO believe that the cross is meaningful.  I believe that Christian spirituality holds many basic truths as do belief systems such as Buddhism.  They overlap more than we may realize at the surface.  What I take away from both systems is that we are all connected to a Divine source (whatever It may be), that we are all connected, and that we must live in the “now” to access It.

Come Meet Me

Come

meet me,

and all the other

voices that live

inside your head.

……

I am no more.

…..

You will listen and

listen

and listen

but you will create no more.

….

You can write about fear

You can look at it

straight in the face

Your ability to heal is profound.

..

Today is only today:

pure, empty, simple–

like your body,

your mind

.

Our souls, roaming this world,

uniting our light with that of the universe.
