About You

The day

I write

a poem

about you–

then

I’ll start

considering

love.

Until

then,

leave it

on my front step,

off with the paper

and my morning coffee;

let me read about it

in books,

watch movies

that make me cry.

I don’t know why

this song

keeps on singing,

over and over

in my head–

now remind me again

of that thing called love.

“A watched pot never boils,”

and well– a docked ship

never sinks

but land never did make

for a skilled sailor.

I will flip through these pages

and keep dipping my ink,

deeper and deeper

into my mind

until one day,

perhaps,

my heart

finds

its way

out.

Why be a Feminist?

It’s

been on

my mind, lately.

……..

I

watch Zen

Buddhism videos every

……

day

and yet

today is the

…..

first

I have

watched a woman.

….

The

songs on

the radio really

….

are

just “okay,”

when one yells

“pussy”

I shrink

inwards, when “Choice,”

“Respect,”

and dare

I mention “Love”

….

are

excluded from

our social vocabulary

…..

I

want more

90’s anthems and

……

80’s

love songs

I want more

…….

Feminism

I want

all Feminism, all

……

Compassion

no rape-

culture, no need

….

for

school reform

I want Equality

for my mother, my sister, for me.

Radio Love

You’re giving me

such sweet nothings

’cause I’m happy.

I met you in the summer

and you told me, “Ain’t it fun

living in the real world?”

We count on no one,

I guess– until I counted on you.

I came in like a wrecking ball

and was so fancy–

you already knew.

I wanted you to love

all my curves and all my edges,

all my perfect imperfections,

And JT told me it’s not a bad thing

to fall in love with you–

but now it’s gonna be me.
